Our Hanukkah Celebration

Barbara, Jeannine, Marge, Me

Well, we're a little behind schedule, but we finally celebrated Hanukkah on Sunday evening with three friends and neighbors--Jeannine, Barbara and Marge.

Barbara and Jeannine

During Hanukkah, I still wasn't feeling well from the Cipro and from my cold, so we delayed our celebration.

Barbara and Marge

Many years ago, I read something about letting go of the expectation of celebrating a birthday or holiday on the actual day when illness interferes. I've taken that to heart, and increasingly tried to let go of the pressure of doing something like a holiday celebration if I'm not up to it.

Our Hanukkah Table

We even had quilted placemats and a table runner that Marge made!

It's exciting that when guests come, I able to sit at the table rather than in my recliner.

Spinach and Roasted Vegetable Salad

Everything was, of course, delicious.

Latkes!

Especially the latkes.

I'm on a super restricted diet now called FODMAPS. It's working. Really well. But one of the most forbidden foods is onions. Mom creatively substituted chives, and voila!

Wild Alaskan Salmon

We were able to have a meal almost completely of local foods and wild Alaskan salmon from our farmer's market--a reminder of the blessing of our local food movement.

Me and Mom

From our home to yours, may your holiday filled with light and love. We send healing thoughts and extra hugs (and puppy kisses) to those who find the holidays difficult or painful because of grief, loss, loneliness, illness or other life struggles.

Blessings,

Emily
